Nov 07, 2008 2010 NATIONAL JAMBOREE RALLY - There will be a rally and information session for the 100th Anniversary National Scout Jamboree on Sunday, November 16, 2:00pm at the Libertyville High School Theater.  Come find out about the FUN and EXCITEMENT in attending the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Boy Scouts of America!  Don’t miss out on this opportunity!  All Scouts who qualify and would like to learn more about this unique opportunity should make every effort to attend.
Oct 22, 2008 RIVERWOODS ROAD CLEANUP - Troop 78 Riverwoods Road fall cleanup is scheduled for Sunday November 2nd from 12:00 to 1:30, starting from CCC. There is sure to be loads of trash to pick up following Halloween. It's a lot of fun finding all the interesting trash on the side of the road. You can have fun while earning service hours. Wear long pants, long sleves, and bring work gloves. Contact Collin Becker for information.
Oct 14, 2008 COMMANDO CAMPOUT - This year's Commando Campout will be November 7-9 at camp Sol Crown. This campout is always a huge hit with the Scouts. Highlights include Capture the Flag and Flour Bomb competitions. Watch for announcements.
Oct 14, 2008 MERIT BADGE FAIR - NEIC is holding its annual Merit Badge Fair on November 15, at the Great Lakes Naval Base near North Chicago.  Please reply to Joe Nordstrom's email as soon as possible with your choices for merit badges, as all are offered on a first-come, first-Served basis.
Oct 1, 2008 COURT OF HONOR - All Scouts and family members are encouraged to come to the Court of Honor at 7:00 on Monday, October 13. We will honor all scouts who have completed rank advancement or merit badges since the last CoH. Followed by a desert extravaganza, each family should bring a dessert to share.
Oct 1, 2008 WREATH PACKET TURN-IN - Don't forget to keep selling wreaths.  Wreath packet turn-in is on Monday, October 27.
Oct 1, 2008 DEVIL'S LAKE ROCK CLIMBING - We will be going to Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI, for the Climbing Campout, October 24-26. Spectacular scenery, plenty of opportunity for challenging climbs, and experienced outfitters make this campout a favorite for Scouts.  Click the following links for the Flyer and the Waiver.  Contact Mr. Tiller for more information.
June 2, 2008 ONLINE SURVEY - Don't forget to do your online or paper survey!  Everyone in the troop should have received an email with a link to the survey.  If you did not, contact Mr. Nordstrom and he will send you one.  Your input on activities and events will be extremely useful as the Senior Patrol and the Troop Committee work together this summer to plan out next year's calendar of events.
June 1, 2008 4TH OF JULY PARADE - Troop 78 will once again participate in the Lincolnshire 4th of July parade.  Keep your eyes open for upcoming communication!
May 19, 2008 WET N' WILD - Join Troop 78 as we raft, canoe and kayak the mighty East Race Waterway on Sunday, June 15. This course is modeled after the Olympic course in Augsberg, Germany, and is great for beginners and experts. This is one of the most fun events of the year. Parents and family can also participate! April, 2008 SUGAR RIVER CANOE TRIP - On May 17th and 18th, Troop 78 is heading out to the Sugar River in Winnebago county for an overnight canoe trip. Join us for two fun filled days of canoeing and camping. Details are available by following the link for the registration form , description of the trip and a map . Turn in your form and check at the PLC meeting on May 5th or in the mail to the address on the form by May 9th. For more information, contact Mr. Tiller.

Feb 28, 2008 BACKPACKING TRIP - Our overnight backpacking trip will be on April 11-13, on the beautiful Ice Age Trail at the Kettle Morraine State Park in Wisconsin. Our troop has hiked there in the past, and everyone loves it. There are a number of hiking options, including a 10-mile backpack trek. We are inviting the Pack 78 Webelos to camp with us at the site, as it will be close to a parking area. Click here for flyer and park Info wirh map.
Feb 4, 2008 SCOUTING FOR FOOD - Troop 78 will be doing our annual food drive in March. We will distribute bags on Saturday March 1, and collect the food on Saturday March 8. Meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. each day. Bag preparation will be Friday, February 22, At the Coulson's house. Scouts will receive service hours for participating.
Feb 4, 2008 DAY HIKE - Hey scouts, it is time for the Spring Day Hike. This 10 mile hike is scheduled to take place on March 9th at 12:30pm, starting at the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, just off of St. Mary's road. Jan 28, 2008 ROCK CLIMBING - Troop 78 will be returning this year to the North Wall Climbing Gym on February 17 for our indoor rock climbing day trip. It is a great way to fulfil some of the requirements for the Climbing merit badge, whether you have already started it or are thinking about it. Scouts loved the outing last year. Dec 10, 2007 WINTER CAMPOUT - This year's Winter Campout will be held at Camp MaKaJaWan over the weekend of January 18-21. We have reserved heated cabins (located by the summer camp Country Store) for the weekend. Activities will include winter hiking, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, showshoeing, sledding, and winter scouting skills. Contact Mr. Nerad or Mr. Tolbert for information. Click here for flyer.
Nov 24, 2007 WINTER SOLSTICE DAY HIKE - Join us for a fun and challenging 10-mile hike along the Des Plains River Trail on Sunday, December 16, 2007. Meet at the Lincolnshire Village Hall west parking area at 12:00 noon. The hike will take about 4 hours. Scouts should eat lunch BEFORE they depart, but bring snack food and water for refreshment as we walk. We will walk in any weather, so dress accordingly and bring spare clothing. Sep 28, 2007 ADULT LEARNING OPPORTUNITY - Troop 78 is offering a great group learning opportunity for all adults in our troop. The session will be at Jan Stefans' house, Monday, Oct 1, 7:30-9:30. We will discuss opportunities for involvement, provide tips for working effectively with boys, help you give to the community, and answer all your questions about the troop. Whatever your role, this is a fantastic way to get started. Please join us.
Sep 25, 2007 WREATH SALE - This year's Wreath Sale kicks off on Monday, October 8. Scouts will pick up their wreath route assignments and sales materials at the Troop Meeting. Please make every effort to be at the meeting, or have someone pick up your material. Parents of new Scouts should attend the last 30 minutes of the meeting! REMEMBER - Scouts keep 40% of proceeds, to apply toward high-adventure trips or camping equipment.

Sep 12, 2007 NEIC CAMPOREE - Troop 78 will participate in the Northeast Illinois Council "Back to Basics" Camporee, on October 5-7, at Van Patten Woods in Wadsworth, IL. This camporee will provide Scouts with the chance not only to test basic scouting skills, but also to share in the spirit of Scouting as it was 100 years ago. Activities will include fire building and knots as well as war canoe races, fishing, games, kayaking, climbing wall, and much more. Aug 19, 2007 SKILLS CAMPOUT - This is a GREAT way to kick off the year. It will be September 14-16 at the Adeline Geo-Karis State Park (formerly, IL Beach Park) in Zion, IL. Jun 29, 2007 4TH OF JULY PARADE - Troop 78 will again be marching in the Lincolnshire 4th of July parade. We will be handing out small Lincolnshire flags to spectators. Wear comfortable shoes and your full scout uniform, and bring water bottles. We will meet at the Sprague parking lot at 10:00 AM. The parade will end at Spring Lake Park. May 23, 2007 PHILMONT TRAINING HIKE - Scouts going to Philmont this summer will have an equipment demo and a training hike on Sunday, May 27, at Old School Preserve, lot C. The equipment demo will be from 9-10am, hike will be from 10am-3pm. Others are welcome to participate. Wear good hiking boots and bring water and sack lunches.
May 13, 2007 WET N' WILD - Join Troop 78 as we raft, canoe and kayak the mighty East Race Waterway on Sunday, June 17. May 9, 2007 MEMORIAL DAY - We have a wonderful opportunity to serve our village in their celebration of Memorial Day on Monday, May 28, 9:30 am at North Park. The village has asked Troop 78 to be the honor guard for the flag ceremony. Scouts must be in full uniform. Please respond to Dr. Wood through e-mail or at the Monday, May 14 meeting.
Apr 28, 2007 WEBELOS CAMPOUT - We are going on our annual campout with the incoming Webelos on May 18-20. This is always a very fun campout with lots of activities, and is a great opportunity for new scouts to meet the troop. Click here for flyer. Contact Mr. Mitchell for more information.

Apr 16, 2007 FIRST AID MERIT BADGE - Troop 78 is planning to offer the First Aid merit badge this spring, timing of the first meeting is still being determined. This is an Eagle Required merit badge. If you do not have this merit badge, you should plan on taking it. Troy Glickstern is collecting names, please contact Troy if you are interested.
Apr 11, 2007 COMMUNICATIONS MERIT BADGE - Troop 78 is offering the Communications merit badge starting on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the CCC, starting at 9am. This is an Eagle Required merit badge. Apr 9, 2007 FIRST AID MEET - The NE Illinois Council is offering a First Aid Meet THIS SATURDAY, April 14. Highlights: inter-troop competition; realistic scenarios; skills for ranks and First Aid Merit Badge; and an opportunity to learn from the pros--real rescue and EMT teams will be present. Apr 7, 2007 CAVING CAMPOUT - Troop 78 will be repeating one of its most popular campouts ever, April 20-22. Explore the squeeze, a 12” by 18” opening that must be crawled through on all fours, as well as the Bat Room, Dave’s Sink, and Wayne’s World. These changing caves offer new views every year, and the opportunity to excavate a cave. Click here for the flyer.
Apr 2, 2007 PADS - We will be doing our last PADS on Saturday, April 14. This is a great opportunity for scouts to help others, and to get service hours. If you have not done it before, you should try to go this time. If you are interested, contact Greg Englerth.
Mar 13, 2007 OA ELECTIONS - All Scouts should make sure they attend the March 19 meeting so they can vote in the Order of the Arrow elections!
Mar 5, 2007 DAY HIKE - We will be going on a day hike with the Pack 78 Webelos in Moraine Hills State Park in McHenry, IL, on Sunday, March 18. There will be a 5-mile and a 10-mile hike, both of which can be used for advancement or toward the hiking merit badge. Click here for flyer.
Mar 5, 2007 BROWNSEA - Brownsea is a 1-week outdoor youth leadership program offered June 17-23 by the Northeast Illinois Council at Camp Wabaningo in Wisconsin. Scouts interested in participating in Brownsea, who meet the prerequisites, should contact Dr. Wood. Scouts must be 14 years old, have held a leadership position, and have the camping merit badge.
Feb 21, 2007 FOOD DRIVE - Troop 78 will be doing our annual food drive in March. We will distribute bags on Saturday March 3, and collect the food on Saturday March 10. Meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. each day. We still need Scouts and adult drivers for both days. Scouts will receive service hours for participating. If you can participate, contact Greg Englerth.
Feb 19, 2007 PHILMONT MEETING - All Scouts attending Philmont this summer should come to the church at 6:30 for a discussion and planning meeting on Monday, February 26.

Feb 6, 2007 PATROL ACTIVITY - Scoutmaster Dr. Wood reminds all Patrol Leaders to begin planning their patrol outings, and submit plans to Dr. Wood. Patrol outings will need at least two adult leaders, at least one of whom is Youth Safety trained. Questions, please contact Dr. Wood.

Feb 1, 2007 PHILMONT ORIENTATION - The REI store in Niles is offereing an orientation session on Wednesday, February 7 for scouts planning on going to Philmont. They will discuss the ins and outs of essential gear, safety, what to expect, and how to keep the cost to a minimum. Click here for more information. Mr Leigh and/or Mr. Nordstrom will be going, scouts who are planning on going to Philmont should also consider going.
Feb 1, 2007 HIGH ADVENTURE CANOE TRIP - Mr. Holub is leading a week-long high adventure canoe trip for older scouts this June, in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota. If you are interested, contact Mr. Holub.
